Never tried High Impact Interval Training (HIIT)? What kind of a workout to try? What equipment or no equipment? There are million possible answers to that...here's mine. My suggestion would be to get started with one piece of equipment - the kettlebell. I can still remember my first touch with it...10 swings or so and I felt smoked. Was completely puzzled...what is this thing...I'm decently fit and now this...etc. For ladies 8 kg/18lb and for men 16kg/35lb are the usually recommended sizes. Depends on how strong and fit one is though of course. No, the kettlebell does not fly you to the moon but yes, it is perhaps the most versatile single piece of workout equipment there is. Worth trying, they are cheap, consume no space, can be used at home, backyard, garage. Last for ever and they are no shopping TV exercise no-good-bs-crap (except some lousy plastic strange shape things...stay away from those). Google "HIIT kettlebell beginner" or similar and you will find a ton of resources. What to do, for how long, how does it all work and what does it all mean. Plenty of good stuff. Kettlebell swing is the exercise to start with. Easy to learn but there is a bit of a learning curve - Google/YouTube "kettlebell swing". What I would suggest as the first routine is the good old "Tabata". Tabata is a HIIT "protocol" where one works (hard) 20 seconds, then rests 10 seconds. Repeat 8 times and you have done your first Tabata workout. Google "Tabata" to learn more. So...simply...eight rounds of: 00:20 Kettlebell Swing 00:10 Rest That's just four minutes. Too easy? Try a bit heavier kettlebell and it won't be. Kutya Timer for iPhone and iPad comes with pre-defined Tabata Timer and it happens to be the default timer...so all you have to do to get started is get the app and tap 'Start' on the main screen. Kutya Timer comes with plenty of other sample workout too. But most importantly, you can define your own workouts the easiest possible way: Just type in your workouts as plain text. You can add comments, notes as much you like. Kutya TImer for iPhone and iPad on the App Store |
